Bad Nenndorf is a town and a recognized spa resort specializing in mud, mineral, and thermal treatments. In preparation for the 2026 State Garden Show, the town has been enhanced: historical features have been restored, and new points of interest have been created.
The spa park, which is over 200 years old, forms the green heart of Bad Nenndorf. Approximately 6,000 square meters of pathways within the spa and landscape park have been restored in a manner consistent with heritage conservation standards. In sensitive areas, root bridges have been installed to protect the valuable stock of trees. Numerous plazas and other areas have also been enhanced—including the panoramic path, which offers an expansive view across the Deister-Süntel Valley.
At the same time, historical design elements have made a comeback: three landscape features—a birch-clad hut, a bark-covered hut, and a rustic log-built hut—have been restored. Along the avenue of Süntel beeches, planted by Carl Thon in 1934, a footbridge over 100 meters long now offers new perspectives on these distinctive trees.
The lawn area and the relaxation pavilion have become new attractions for visitors. The historic building has been renovated, and in front of it, a 720-square-meter pond has been created, featuring a water feature and new spaces for visitors to relax. Another unique addition is the "forest temple" (Waldtempel): a circular, accessible structure that surrounds the historic water reservoir and rises to the level of the treetops. An experiential trail, approximately one kilometer in length, connects the forest temple with the relaxation pavilion, offering a special way to explore the forest through various sensory stations.
The Sun Garden has also undergone extensive further development. Fountains and a pavilion have been incorporated into the design, alongside a kitchen garden, a medicinal garden, and a sensory garden. Permanent plantings complement the changes made throughout the entire park.
The new Erlengrund Bridge spans the B 65 federal highway, connecting the historic spa park with the Erlengrund area. This reunites two sections of the park while simultaneously creating an attractive link extending further toward the Deister hills.
The "adventure meadow" and "adventure copse" have created a diverse space for nature exploration and learning. With a mix of wooded areas, open ground, and various interactive features, the site invites visitors to discover nature firsthand. It is also home to the "colorful classroom" and its "wonder workshop"—a place for research, experimentation, and collaborative learning, focusing on topics such as nature, sustainability, climate protection, and shaping the future.
